Sissy Museum

Located inside the Hofburg and deserves special attention. Here are presented not only those things that are associated with the famous Empress Elizabeth, but also the history of the tragic fate of this amazing woman. Born in Germany, she met her husband Joseph at one of the receptions and they got married. However, her mother-in-law did not like her daughter-in-law, and life at the palace became hell for Sissy (relatives and friends called Elizabeth so affectionately). Over time, she gave birth to her husband 4 children, among whom there was only one boy. The smallest daughter died at the age of 2 years, and the heir was killed, without having allowed to enter the throne. Heartbroken, dressed in mourning, Sissy went on a trip herself and never returned. She was killed with a thin knife right in the heart. This and much more about the Empress can be found here in the museum. Opening hours are the same as those of Hofsburg.
